Sunderland ‘Til I Die doc could be revived if club make it to Champions League

One of the men behind behind the acclaimed Sunderland ‘Til I Die documentary series has admitted he may have to rethink a decision to call time on it if the club make it to the Champions League.

The third and final season of the Netflix show, which charts the Black Cats’ bid to fight their way out of Sky Bet League One at the fourth attempt, is due to hit screens next Wednesday and provide viewers with the happy ending the first two did not.

Ben Turner, a partner in the Fulwell 73 production company behind the documentary and a lifelong Sunderland fan, believes the story has drawn to a natural conclusion – at least for now.

However, asked if there could be another chapter to be written, he told the PA news agency with a smile: “This feels like the perfect…

Xavi still had two more years to run on his deal, but Barcelona have paid his release clause and reached an agreement with the Qatari side for the club legend to replace Ronald Koeman.

Keane gives up on Man Utd: I feel sorry for the players – they are not up to it

Roy Keane said he felt sorry for the Manchester United players after their derby defeat to Manchester City as the former captain believes they are simply not good enough.

United were second best in a 2-0 loss to the Premier League champions at Old Trafford, an Eric Bailly own goal and a finish from Bernardo Silva settling the contest before half-time.

It was the Red Devils first home league match since the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool but there was little better about this latest result other than the scoreline.

United had only one shot on target throughout, managing only 389 passes to City s 821, as Pep Guardiola s men eased through the contest in second gear.

Former United defender Gary Neville described it as a calm annihilation at City s hands, and Kean…

Injured Elliot Anderson withdraws from Scotland squad to face Cyprus and England

Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for the double-header with Cyprus and England just over a week after being called up for the first time.

Back-up goalkeeper Liam Kelly has also dropped out and is replaced by Robby McCrorie ahead of Friday’s Euro 2024 qualifier in Limassol.

Whitley Bay-born Anderson, who has a Scottish grandmother, was a surprise inclusion in Steve Clarke’s squad last week after deciding against switching allegiance to England following positive discussions with the Scotland boss.

The highly-regarded 20-year-old trained at Lesser Hampden earlier this week but it was revealed on Wednesday that he had left the squad due to injury and would have to wait a while longer to ensure he was officially committed…

Prediction: Celta Vigo vs Barcelona

Best Odds: 8/15

Bookmaker:

Hoping to sign off their La Liga romp with another statement on the road, Barcelona will travel to Balaidos on Sunday night when they meet Celta Vigo.

Celta Vigo

Starting with the hosts, opening Sunday’s La Liga finale holding just a one-point buffer over slipping into the drop zone, Celta Vigo know that they have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders this weekend. Knowing that potentially just three points could be enough to help them avoid an infamous top-flight relegation, Carlos Carvalhal s side are certainly limping their way over the finish line. Last seen putting in another nightmare display as they slumped to what could be a season-deciding 1-0 loss away at Cadiz, the one-time Sheffield Wednesday boss has come under p…

Gareth Southgate facing ‘complicated’ decision on Man City stars for Malta game

Gareth Southgate confirmed Manchester City’s quintet are available to face Malta, but the England boss is wary about the emotional impact of completing the treble and subsequent revelry.

Pep Guardiola’s men became the second team in English football history to complete the treble by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday.

City partied long into the night in Turkey and only halted their celebrations after Monday’s rain-soaked parade back in Manchester, with worse-for-wear Jack Grealish at the heart of things.

The playmaker reported for England duty at St George’s Park on Tuesday evening along with team-mates Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Kalvin Phillips.

They travelled to Malta for Friday’s Euro 2024 …

Conte proud of Inter´s ´ugly´ win over Napoli

Antonio Conte was proud of Inter for grinding out an ugly 1-0 victory over Napoli in Serie A at San Siro on Wednesday.

Roberto Gagliardini s weak header was the only effort on target during the first half of a dour league encounter, with Inter only taking the lead when Romelu Lukaku converted a 73rd-minute penalty after David Ospina fouled Matteo Darmian.

That was the only other shot on target the Nerazzurri mustered across the entire game midweek, while Napoli – who had captain Lorenzo Insigne sent off for dissent after referee Davide Massa pointed to the spot – did not draw a save from Samir Handanovic until the 69th minute.

The match was very tactical, the teams played with a lot of respect and it wasn t a great match, but it is an important victory again…

Juventus agree new deal with Manuel Locatelli until 2028

Manuel Locatelli has signed a new contract with Juventus which will keep him at the Turin club until 2028.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who was part of the Italy squad which triumphed at Euro 2020, initially joined the Bianconeri in 2021 on a loan deal with an obligation to buy from Sassuolo which was reported to have ultimately cost Juve 35 million euros (£30.5m).

A club statement read: “This signature until 2028 is a dream come true that is still continuing. It is another promise to himself and to his Juventus.”

La Liga file Man City & PSG complaint to UEFA

La Liga have filed complaints to UEFA regarding Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for continuously breaching financial fair play regulations.

The Spanish division made an initial complaint in April regarding Premier League champions City and has followed it up with another complaint about French giants PSG.

La Liga also cited conflict of interests regarding PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, due to his role as European Club Association chairman and his role as the organisation s delegate to UEFA s executive committee.

In a statement, La Liga said their complaint was due to the fact that the clubs are continuously breaching FFP regulations and believe that these practices alter the ecosystem and the sustainability of football and only serve to artificially …

Hayes maintains unbeaten Olympics start as United States top Group B

Emma Hayes unbeaten record as the United States head coach continued as her side remained perfect following their 2-1 win over Australia in Group B.

Hayes, who took charge of the USWNT in May, has won six of her seven games at the helm, conceding just twice in that time.

The USA, along with Spain, are the only two sides to win all of their games at the Paris Olympics so far and will have great confidence heading into the knockout stages.

Trinity Rodman s second goal of the tournament two minutes from half-time sent them on their way, as Korbin Albert s 77th-minute strike saw her become the the youngest substitute scorer for the USA at the Olympics since Mallory Swanson against Colombia in 2016.

Alanna Kennedy s late strike would take some of the shine…
