Arteta confident Odegaard will help not hinder Smith Rowe

Mikel Arteta does not believe the return of Martin Odegaard will hamper Emile Smith Rowe s progress, instead believing the move is important to protect Arsenal s number 10.

Arsenal announced two new signings on Friday, with Odegaard followed to Emirates Stadium by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Odegaard is already familiar with his surroundings, though, having spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan from Real Madrid.

During that time, he started just eight times alongside Smith Rowe in all competitions, although Arsenal won five of those matches.

Now back as a permanent signing, there could be concern Odegaard will limit opportunities for Smith Rowe, who has penned an improved contract and taken on a more prominent role for the new season followin…

Rodriguez joins PSV on loan as Milan reportedly eye Robinson move

Ricardo Rodriguez has left Milan to join Eredivisie side PSV on loan for the rest of the season, with Antonee Robinson reportedly set to replace him at San Siro.

Rodriguez joined Milan from Wolfsburg in 2017 and has made 93 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri.

However, only five of those came this season, with the Switzerland international having lost his place to Theo Hernandez, who has been one of Milan s most consistent performers following his arrival from Real Madrid.

Rodriguez – perhaps with an eye on improving his chances of featuring at Euro 2020 – has now left Milan, joining up with PSV for the remainder of the season.

First day at the office.

Eredivisie Preview: Depay out to end PSV stint on a high

Memphis Depay will play his last game for PSV at ADO Den Haag as the already-crowned champions look to end a superb season with a sixth win on the trot on Sunday.

Depay, who signed for Manchester United last week, has lit up the Eredivisie with 22 goals this season and his prolific partnership with Luuk de Jong who has weighed in with 19 has been crucial in PSV ending Ajax s dominance of the league.

The capital club won four successive titles but have been no match for PSV, who sit 14 points clear of them with one match to play.

PSV s first title since 2008, and 22nd overall, has been masterminded by coach Phillip Cocu, who won four as a player with the club.

And Cocu will hope his side can finish a tremendous campaign on a high note at the 13th-placed …

Flick goes strong for Germany´s Nations League fixtures

Germany coach Hansi Flick has named a 26-man squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Flick s team face four matches in the space of 11 days between June 4 and 14, playing against Italy both home and away, either side of hosting England and travelling to Hungary.

There are no new faces in Germany s squad, with Flick sticking with the tried-and-tested players who will almost certainly form the bulk of his selection for the 2022 World Cup, which starts in November.

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a notable absentee, but he had previously confirmed he asked Flick for permission to skip the matches and recuperate.

It means uncapped Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has received his first call-up sin…

Barcelona still interested in Onana

According to a recent report from Marca, Barcelona are set to make a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana – dependant on whether or not Jasper Cillessen leaves. It’s quite clear to see that ter Stegen is the number one man for Barca right now and will be for a long time, and the club are in need of a back up option. The Cameroon international has been with Ajax since back in 2015, when he joined from – ironically enough – Barcelona. He spent five years in their setup and made his debut for his native cousin.

Right now it seems like there are a parade of top goalkeepers around Europe just stood around doing nothing, and it can’t continue. Onana is getting some game time with Ajax and it’d be interesting to see whether or not he’d take the plunge, because financiall…

Prediction: Shanghai Shenhua vs Guangzhou FC

Best Odds: 1/2

Bookmaker:

Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Chinese Super League table, Shanghai Shenhua will host Guangzhou FC on Sunday morning.

Shanghai Shenhua

Starting with the hosts, despite just about managing to scrape themselves a top-half finish in the Chinese Super League last season, Shanghai Shenhua have certainly made some real improvements this time around. Putting in another eye-catching last weekend as they claimed a deserved 2-0 victory at home against Wuhan, Head Coach Wu Jingui could even have his sights set on making a shock title charge. Opening up Sunday s meeting at the Hongkou Football Stadium sat with just their goal difference keeping them off of top spot, The Flower of Shanghai should be smelling a…

Australia 3-1 Oman: Boyle in the bag as Socceroos star scores in record-setting win

Martin Boyle stooped to conquer as Australia racked up a record 11th successive win in their World Cup qualifying campaign, battling to a 3-1 victory over Oman.

The Hibernian forward got down to head in the crucial second goal for the Socceroos at the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar, and he has now been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight internationals, scoring five times and providing three assists.

Australia snatched a ninth-minute lead when Awer Bul Mabil lashed home a left-footed strike.

Graham Arnold s side were then indebted to goalkeeper Mat Ryan who kept them ahead with two fine saves, but he was beaten in the 28th minute as Al Mandhar Al Alawi pulled Oman level, sidestepping Harry Souttar and thrashing a shot high into th…

Torino sign defender Rodriguez from Milan

Torino have signed Ricardo Rodriguez from Serie A counterparts Milan on a four-year deal.

The defender made 93 appearances for Milan in all competitions after joining from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in June 2017, scoring four goals.

However, the Switzerland international spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at PSV, having slipped behind Theo Hernandez in the pecking order to start at left-back.

Rodriguez made six appearances, five of them starts, for the Dutch club before the Eredivisie campaign was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Torino  who recently appointed former Milan boss Marco Giampaolo as their new head coach  have reportedly paid €3million to bring in the 27-year-old.

Ronaldo: ´Without a doubt´ my last Euros

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared Euro 2024 will without a doubt be his last European Championships, after Portugal scraped past Slovenia to reach the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo missed chance after chance as Slovenia held on for a goalless draw in Monday s last-16 tie, seeing an extra-time penalty turned away by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The five-time Ballon d Or winner was seen in tears at the extra-time interval, later saying he hit rock bottom at that moment.

However, he recovered to convert Portugal s first kick of the shoot-out, while goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved all three of Slovenia s efforts as the Selecao booked a quarter-final date with France.

Ronaldo is playing at his 11th major tournament (World Cup/Euros) and this is the first in which he failed to sc…

Neville urges Man Utd owners to invest amid reported Eriksen tussle

Manchester United s owners must invest to make the club attractive to potential signings amid a reported battle with Brentford to sign Christian Eriksen.

That is the message from United great Gary Neville, who is frustrated with how the Glazer family run the club.

Eriksen is said to be considering a move between Brentford and United, which might seem unusual given the contrasting statures of the two clubs.

The offer from United is reported to be far more financially lucrative, but the Denmark midfielder may repay the faith shown in him by Thomas Frank, who gave him a chance to prove his fitness – and quality – a little over six months after Eriksen had collapsed on the pitch at Euro 2020 due to a heart problem.

Eriksen scored once and assisted fou…
